about hey jupiter

hey jupiter is a lot of things. It is first and foremost a Tori Amos song, from my favourite album of hers, Boys for Pele. It is also a personal zine that I sometimes write and give away for free. In this iteration it's a blog, I guess? Or maybe a digital zine, but not just a zine that's been scanned and uploaded to the internet. A place for me to put things that aren't quite right for zines but have zine energy.

hey jupiter is made using Neocities and the free blogging engine Zonelets. The background image is made from a piece of Dodgy Paper that I scanned into my computer.

hey jupiter is inspired by many things, but the push I needed to actually begin came from reading the essay Closer to the Metal by Caleb Triscari, published in crawlspace. And, in particular, this bit:

"The learning curve we will face by refamiliarising ourselves with the web’s possibilities will be steep at times. We’re out of practice when it comes to spending extended amounts of time on tasks that don’t bring us income, dopamine or other positive returns. But to a degree, it should be an obligation for each of us to learn the mechanics behind the things we use each day."

hey jupiter is my first attempt at this tackling this learning curve.

If you would like to get in touch please email me. I would love to hear from you, particularly if you are fellow blogger, zine maker or DIY artist. Or if you just want to say hi <3
